I have been working therapeutically with adults and children for more than 20 years. Starting work in social education and social care, I enjoyed most the offering of deeper therapeutic support. Taking this further, I studied at the Lincoln Institute for Psychotherapy and the University of London before setting up a private counselling practice. My interest in our human experience - what makes us who we are, and what goes on between us - goes back a long way.
I work with adults - individuals, couples, and groups - and have in the past worked as a children's counsellor.
As a counselling supervisor, I trained with Cascade Associates. I have worked as group supervisor with MIND and the City Lit and currently offer individual supervision to both trainee and experienced counsellors.
I have helped to set up counselling services in organisations working with substance use and 'mental health'. I have provided counselling support for clients in these organisations and emergency therapeutic support for staff.
I offer team development training to staff within different social care agencies and design various workshop materials and programmes including: counselling skills; co-facilitation and group work; assertiveness; stress; and working with difference. I currently work as a trainer on the Diploma(HE) in Working with Children and Young People for Anglia Ruskin University and have previously facilitated counsellor diploma and certificates at City Lit and Lambeth College.
As an Accredited Member of the National Counselling Society (NCS), I work in accordance with their guidelines for ethics and good practice. I am a registrant of their Accredited Voluntary Register. I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and a member of the British Association for the Person-Centred Approach (BAPCA).
My approach to counselling is humanistic and fundamentally person-centred. I am also influenced by models of compassionate communication, energy work, ‘true self’ philosophies and family constellation work. I have completed training in Marshall Rosenberg's 'Nonviolent Communication'TM, energy healing and Body Tao (body psychotherapy).
My guiding beliefs are that we fundamentally want meaningful relationships with others, that healing happens when we are deeply heard and that we have an infinite, and surprising, capacity for creativity and resourcefulness!
I found counselling incredibly helpful in many ways. I needed a calm place in which I could explore difficult feelings & Helene created a neutral, non-judgemental environment where I could explore any thoughts or feelings and learn to notice & understand patterns I had developed through my life. Helene was calm and thoughtful & gently helped me in the direction of a better self-realisation. RH
My North London counselling practice is based in West Hampstead and is within easy reach of Brondesbury Park, Hampstead, Queens Park, St John's Wood, Swiss Cottage, Belsize Park and Camden. Close transport links to other areas of London.
